ErinHey Tween Girl Style Magazine fans my name is Erin and I had a chance to catch up with Emily Allen Lind who stars in the new movie “Dear Dumb Diary” premiering on the Hallmark Channel Friday September 6. This movie is about a girl named Jamie (Emily Alyn Lind) who becomes concerned when the arts program is in danger of being shut down due to budget cuts. The character is determined to save what she loves. She joins a jump-a-thon to raise money so that the program can go on but, of course there are bumps along the road to success.

ErinHow was your experience of making the movie “Dear Dumb Diary” and playing Jamie?
Emily: I had an amazing time shooting DDD and I fell in love with the character of Jamie.  At first, I didn’t realize how much we were alike – but during the shoot, I realized we had so many similarities – I think a lot of Jr. High kids are in the same boat – ya know, trying to figure out who you are – it’s a tricky time.

DearDumbDiary_DVDWebErin:  You said you were like Jamie in the movie, have you done any fundraisers for your school or do you have a charity you contribute to?
Emily: I have been involved with The Make A Wish Foundation for 3 years now.  I keep a box when I work on set, and I call it The Love Fund.  Cast and Crew contribute to the box every day. Sometimes I sell candy on sugar-free sets.

I love working with a charity, because when I book a job, I feel like I’m not just working for myself, but I’m helping others too.  The Make A Wish Foundation is incredible.  It makes you so grateful just to be healthy.

ErinWhat was your favorite part of the movie?
Emily: My favorite part of DDD was all of the awesome musical numbers.  It was my first time in a musical, and it was crazy how much time we put into learning the dances and songs.  I’ve never had so much fun shooting anything – I mean, it was a ton of work, but really FUN work.

Erin: Did you meet any cool people on the set?
Emily: We had a Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie look-alike on set.  Everyone wanted their pictures with them, so they could Instagram and tweet and pretend it was really them.  I posted too and everyone was like, “Brad Pitt is in your movie!”

Also, I had a great time meeting all the dancers – they were so talented and the nicest people I’ve ever met.DearDumbDiary_Production_StillWeb

FF5_2423WebErin: What was your favorite musical number in the movie?
Emily: My favorite musical number Just A Number – My sister, Natalie played Claire Vanderhyde and it’s always so much fun to work together.  And it didn’t hurt that all the guys were so much fun…and soooo cute!

Erin: Have you read any of the “Dear Dumb Diary” books?
Emily: I have read ALL the DDD books – I looove them!  Jim Benton sent me all the books after I was casted. I read them while I was shooting.  I can’t wait to see what happens next to Jamie.

Erin: In the movie Jaime has crushes, do your similarities go that far?
Emily: Of course I have crushes, but they change all the time. Right now, I have a crush on a guy.- he doesn’t know, but my friends know. I really don’t want him to know, because it’ll be different next week. I watch Pretty Little Liars until I go sleep, because Ian Harding is super cute! (oh yeah and he can act)

Erin:  Do you have a diary at home?
Emily: I have several diaries at home. I am always writing my feelings down, and I have them scattered all around the house. I learn so much about myself from reading them. What seems like a big deal at the time, is something I laugh about later.

Erin: Tell me what this movie means to you?
Emily: I really loved being a part of DDD, because there aren’t a lot of movies out there that kids my age can relate to.  Pretty in Pink is one of my favorite movies from the 80’s, and I love Molly Ringwolds’s character. She is who she is and doesn’t give into peer pressure to be someone she’s not.  I feel like Dear Dumb Diary is the new Pretty in Pink. She has her own unique style, and isn’t afraid to be herself,  while wanting to fit in.

Premieres on the Hallmark Channel Friday September 6 at 8:00 p.m. EST/7:00 p.m. CT
