“Just Like U! Life as a tween reaching for the stars” by Eden

There have been so many things that have gone on since I last left you my pretties! So let’s just jump into it!

Eden pictured with Kenny Ortega.

Last week, I was able to sit with Kenny Ortega and 40 other talented tweens/teens who have appeared on Broadway for a private pizza party. The pizza party was also a coat drive sponsored by an organization I belong to called Broadway Kids Care and Good Morning America (segment will air on Dec. 9th on your ABC affiliate.) Kenny Ortega is the director from Michael Jackson’s “This is it” and also all of the 3 “High School Musicals.” He gave us words of wisdom and personal stories about his life. One of the things he said about casting is that he always hires the smartest person in the room. That means, your talent is not always what gets you in… and it is not who you know necessarily… it is what you know.

I guess I am in the holiday spirit because I didn’t stop my outreach there this week. Over the weekend, I worked with Divalysscious Moms and The Children’s Aid Society as they kicked off their Holiday Miracle On Madison Brunch @ the OC Concept Store in New York City. OC is really the Orianne Collins Jewellery store and they were quite pricey. I saw a pen in there that cost close to $12,000. I am not kidding you at all. I tried to take a picture of it but all of the bling on it, made the picture look blurry. Of course this was an event that made me remember how great it was to be small. At the event was a special guest reading for the children of Fancy Nancy: Splendiferous Christmas by best selling author Jane O’ Connor.

After that my mom and my big sister/ mentor Nayilah Antoine Biamby hit the candy brick road that directed us to Dylan’s Candy Bar… all I can say is let the pictures speak for themselves. We had a ball! I love that place it is just like heaven. If you ever saw my bedroom it is just like the store. Some people love princess themes, others love ballet themes (and trust me I love them too) but I am so into the candy & all the inspiration that comes from it.

I ended my day at the International Theatre and Literacy Project, were me and my fellow Lion King cub alum, Alphonso Jones sang our hearts out to raise money for African children who are learning through this program to find their voice through theater just like we have. It was nice seeing with Alphonso. He made me laugh when he said, “I still got it!” They raised tons of money and people opened up their hearts and showed Africa that we love them over here.

I charge you to go out and do something wonderful this year. There is so much pain going on in this world. Tweens have the ability; yes I said tweens, to help ease it. Tootles and wet noodles!
