“Just Like U! Life as a tween reaching for the stars” by Eden

By on November 23, 2011

If you don’t have one, you really should get one. You probably think that I am talking about some article of clothing, maybe a favorite color or TV show. Maybe you think I am talking about a favorite song or teen heartthrob. Well, I am not. I am talking about a mentor. I am blessed to have several mentors. But one of the first people to see something special in me is a young lady named Rhonesha Byng.

Rhonesha Byng is a scholar and fashionista but also is an entrepreneur who has this blog about being a trendsetter. Her blog www.societyandstyle.com targets young women ages 14-24 and website, www.Heragenda.com is an online resource to motivate young women into action. When she was young like me, she saw something special in her own life and started shooting for the star. I can remember my mom telling me that she was someone that I need to watch how she becomes a mighty force in the world.  She gives girls like me a positive image in media to be like. Rhonesha doesn’t act like a big shot but she is and the fact that she takes time to help me out makes me feel special and confident. She has studied all over Europe and just graduated. She is like a big sister to me and always supports me. It’s safe to say I love her.

Well, Rhonesha took me to the Teen Vogue “It Girl” pre-holiday event at Bergdoff and Goodman. Marc by Marc Jacobs sponsored it and boy did I have fun! I met all the editors and even got my nails done. So cute. I got minx nails (silver and black) and they are fabulous! You probably are saying I am using too many!!!!! But can you ever use too many when you are talking about the major mag for style? NEVER!!!! It was amazing because the people were so cool. I love Teen Vogue as a magazine. They keep me updated on what the next trend in fashion is and helps me create a lane for what I think is fly. Let’s face it; fashion is really about what you think is fly… and how you can influence others to buy into your creativity. Teen Vogue is right in the center of all that for girls my age.  And I kind of think that they think I am pretty awesome too because they sent a tweet out with me and the Editor In Chief Amy Astley and posted us together on their tumbler! Here go look:

If you look closely at the picture you can see a) my birthday Hello Kitty Bag, b) my signature flowers in the most trendy bold colors and c) my Eiffel tower earrings. Aside from my smile, do you see what I am sporting on my face? I mean the showstopper that made the outfit pop was my fake paper eyelashes from Paper Self. Remember a few weeks ago, I told you about them? Well, I wore them and with the bat of my eyelashes you can see butterflies fluttering and really cute deers dancing for the holidays. This really was a great way to start my real holiday season off.

Speaking of holidays, I am going to Philadelphia to visit my aunts, cousins and Grand mom Vera for thanksgiving with my folks. While we are there, I am hoping to share this new chocolate beverage that my mom brought home from this one-woman play Monette directed by the awesome Jesse Wooden. The drink is called Love Potion 214 and it is a mixture of vanilla, rose essence, coconut milk and cocoa. You can make it hot or serve it cold. It is so yummy and tastes like chocolate milk but with a little something,

something in it. Lovepotion214.com/ It is the perfect holiday drink for little girls like us, with big girl tastes.

I never really talk about music… but I am a singer and I want you to know that I am working on something really exciting with rapper/producer Kwame Holland. Stay tune and until next time. I send you joy and hope that you have a great thanksgiving. BTW I am thankful that you guys like my blog.
